Sample Argument with Pathos

For my sample argument with pathos I picked an article from USA Today called "Mongrel owners, unite!: New Mutt-i-grees Club raising awareness, respect for the mystery breeds." It is an argument to inform readers of the new Mutt-i-grees Club that is trying to raise awareness about mixed-breeds and to elevate the public's perception of them. It uses pathos because it evokes emotional feelings in the reader. It produces sad emotion when it describes the obvious preference of purebreds over mixed-breeds which is apparent at the compared percentages of those that are euthanized in shelters, but it then produces a happy emotion at the many steps being taken to elevate the status of mixed-breeds. In addition, this article is also an argument to convince future dog owners to seriously consider going to the shelter to adopt a mixed-breed animal instead of a breeder for a purebred. This article is an argument about the present and future since it may persuade the reader to take action today or in a couple years.

Any article article about dogs is almost ALWAYS sad, and full with the use of pathos! Good pick!

I sometimes feel a little guilty because I have a purebred Golden Retriever, but we did get her from some people that were going to get rid of her! And my two cats are mutts, maybe that counts!
