Humorous Argument

My topic is universal health care, and for my humorous argument, I drew a hospital check-in room. There is a sign above the check-in desk that says "Universal Health Care: Free Care for Everyone." In the picture, there are three very long lines ,and most of the people waiting are not happy. I also have an Approximate Wait Time sign that says the wait is 2:59 hours long and a comment from one man saying, "I guess my broken leg will have to wait!" I think my argument is an example of satire because it is highlighting one of the major problems of universal health care. The picture might not make people laugh out loud, but its purpose is to make the viewer think- which is what satire is supposed to do.

You already know that I loved your idea for your humourous argument and I think it turned out great. You really present the actual issue at hand but at the same time make it entertaining. I think that the caption is very cute, but I think maybe like we talked about the nurse should still be saying something. Just so it solidifies that this is what will happn if universal health care is implemented. I think the clock was a really cute addition but it might be a good idea just to make it a little more ridiculous by adding like an obscene amount of time on the clock just to really exaggerate your point. But it was really entertaining and you did a great job. (I love the faces of your people :))

I am agreeing with Allie. I thought your idea was really funny and I like the text that you were thinking about including. Sorry I wasn't there today to see the final project but I am sure it looked great.

Michelle-

Effective- The line is really effective in showing the possible disaster with universal healthcare

Suggestions- Maybe add another caption of someone with a broken nail or headache like we read in your op-ed

Response- It was funny and definitely got your point across

Michelle,
I think you make an excellent point with your comic and are funny in doing it. I kilke the change of expressions as the people get farther back in line. Maybe try making the wait time really extreme or making the people in the back be really injured and still not getting help

1. Deals with the topic you present well.
2. Maybe add in a few injuries to the people, so that it looks more like an Emergency Room
3. Your comic is really entertaining and it shows the problems with your topic

I really like your concept, I think you portrayed your idea well and get your points across clearly. The only thing I would change is what the stick figure's injury is. I would make the issue more urgent, rather than a broken leg maybe have a more life threatening or dangerous situation. But other than that minor detail, great job.

Michelle- I think your cartoon is great. It captures the ridiculous concept of Universal Healthcare in a funny exaggeration. I believe that it is very effective and I don't think you should change anything!

Very funny by attacking the centerpoint of Universal Healthcare. I would make the wait time more unreasonable and add more dialogue from people waiting in line.

I think your humorous argument has enough captions on it. There are some things visually that you could add to make things more effective. Instead of three separate lines to one counter, make it one long line. That might be what you have now, it just looked that way to me. Also, you should add crutches or a cast to the guy that is complaining about his broken leg, makes the visuals connect to what he is saying.

I thought it was a funny way to look at an otherwise serious topic! I got the point right away and it touches on an issue that maybe isn't funny in every day life, but you did a really good job of making it interesting and humerous!

I think the nurse could be saying something to really drive the point home of how long lines might be. I think you could also draw in some injuries on people to make it look more like a hospital environment.

I really liked your idea to present your topic as well. The issue is clearly presented. However, I think you should elaborate on the picture more. It might mean more drawing, but it will help your argument. Other than that, I thought you did a great job in presenting your topic.

Universal Health Care=mass chaos

Michelle, I think your argument is very effective. By drawing all of those people waiting in line for healthcare really shows the extent to what universal health care would cause. I also like the countdown clock, it is very effective.
